Meet Charley, Owner-Operator-Luthier

Miami String Music Team

Hello! So very nice to meet you all. My name is Charley and I’m proud to be owner-operator-luthier of Miami String. I have many years of music business, education, teaching, and hands-on experience in the world of music. I earned my undergraduate degree in Music Business from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Shortly after, I pursued my Music Business interest by working for Columbia and Epic Record Labels. I also toured with a few bands and learned the business of tour management and music administration. After completing my expedition, I returned to my hometown of Miami, Florida and began my true passion of teaching. I consulted with a few local schools in Palmetto Bay and Pinecrest and assisted with the orchestra program at Westminster Christian School among others. A few years later, I was offered a full-time position at Miami Country Day School as Music Director. I created a stellar music program including an extracurricular group entitled Radio Ensemble and leveraged many opportunities through technology, music competitions, and even a concert with the famous, Phil Collins himself.

In 2009, Miami String was born. When I decided that I wanted to create a company, I knew that it needed to encompass many aspects that a new musician or professional could need. I started through privately-taught music lessons and provided a service that most could not: delivering music accessories, supplies, and maintenance items to my clients on-the-run. Then, shortly after I began renting much of my inventory to my music students, local schools, and traveling professionals. I sold a few instruments and offered my skill of luthiery, which I learned from the late Master Luthier, Joe Reichgott, and repaired many broken or damaged instruments from my clients in South Florida. Recently, I decided to continue my education by pursuing a Master of Music Education degree from Florida International University’s prestigious School of Music.

Today, Miami String operates primarily throughout South Florida serving clients with a unique music experience through our on-demand or in-home services including music lessons, rentals, repairs, and sales.
