This Emanuel (E.) Wilfer Model 12 Double Bass (Upright Bass) was custom made in Germany in the Summer of 2016. Its size is 3/4 with high-quality spruce top and ebony fittings. The wood is well aged and cut from trees that were at least 6 feet wide and grown in the Black Forest.
The tree for this bass was picked out by hand to have the best tone. The upper and lower bout use gamba corners, referring to its model name “Gamba.” This makes it much easier for bowing. The finish is light, bright, and antiqued to create an old-world amber appearance. The bridge is excellently set up for bowing with Moser bridge adjusters, currently holding up Belcanto Strings installed on this double bass. The sound is warm and distinct with excellent bow response and resonance. The scroll has Irving Sloane machine heads which come from the David Gage shop, specifically purchased to compliment this bass. Extra pictures are available to the buyer, including the luthier process of building this bass in its raw form. *Crack on lower bout has been repaired and is seamless, and not visible, not affecting the sound.
